wine rack…

i can’t even tell you how much i love this wine rack… i had some lumber left over from the double pedestal dining table and decided to make this baby… and i am so in love…

i basically took three 2×4 scraps and used my kreg jig to attach them together for the backing… then used 1×6 scraps to make the shelves… the three with the wine bottles are about 3″ x 8.5″ with a 1×2 trim piece (so my wine doesn’t fall!)… the corkscrew shelf is 3 3/4″ x 8.5″ so that it would be flush with the other shelves, but didn’t need the trim piece….

for the stain, i went with two coats of red mahogany and then a couple coats of poly to seal it… i sanded it to give it a bit of a rustic look – since that is what works in my dining room….

here’s a closer view of the finish:

i really love this piece and it really works well in the room….
